New Host!
October 25th, 2008 Filed Under Site News No Comments / Comment?

I’m happy to say that Maria-Bello.org is now hosted by Fan-Sites.org! While this move does not affect you the visitor, it’s good news for me for a few reasons, including the fact that the site and Maria may be able to get more exposure.

If you visited the site in the last 24 hours you probably experienced some down-time which I apologise for. You will now notice that the layout does not show up on the content or Gallery pages – I need to go through the site and fix each page so please bear with me on that! The site will also be undergoing a bit of a re-vamp soon, with a new layout, more content … and I will start work on the Video Archive!

Thanks again to Fan-Sites.org for hosting us :)

Permanent Midnight screencaptures
October 11th, 2008 Filed Under Gallery Updates No Comments / Comment?

I’ve added screencaps from Permanent Midnight. I didn’t like this movie – it wasn’t sure whether it wanted to be a comedy or a drama … and it wasn’t funny, or particularly dramatic/emotional. The casting was awful (besides the obvious ;) ) so you didn’t feel anything for the characters except annoyance (particularly the main character Jerry). Maria was of course the highlight – again she played the sane, grounding force of the film, and her character Kitty was sweet and likeable.

More film caps coming up later today …

A couple of Australian ‘Towelhead’ articles
October 11th, 2008 Filed Under Nothing Is Private/Towelhead No Comments / Comment?

For me, the Alan Ball-penned “American Beauty” felt a bit like an upper-class party you’d arrived to. Everything else – those that arrived earlier – seemed to be having the time of their lives, clearly understanding the theme of the night, but me, I was a little unsure of the suave event. And I don’t think it would’ve been improved with an abundance of alcohol either. Good film, sure. Great film, not in my mind.

From my point of view, the problem with “American Beauty” was that it flipped back and forth between clever satire and gimmicky smut. It seemed whenever Ball struggled with a scene, he just wrote in another ‘topless’ shot of Mena Suvari’s character or an unnecessary scene of Kevin Spacey’s obsessed elder playing yank-the-crank in the shower.
