"As I’ve gotten older I’ve become more open. You stop judging yourself and you stop judging others. And it
doesn’t matter anymore if anybody likes you."
Last Monday Maria attended the Hollywood Awards Gala Ceremony in Beverley Hills, where she presented Father Rick Frechette with the Hollywood Humanitarian Award. She looked gorgeous in a black dress with beading embellishment, and I particularly love her loose wavy hair!
80+ photos have been added to the Gallery … and don’t be shy, leave a comment on this update or the chatbox if you want to comment on her look, or just have something Maria-related to say!
LET us now praise famous women. Rebecca Miller is the daughter of Magnum photographer Inge Morath and playwright Arthur Miller. She is married to the actor Daniel Day-Lewis. She has been a painter and an actress; she has now written and directed a movie based on her own novel but, of course, it can’t be any good. Children of famous people rarely have any talent of their own, right?
Well, not exactly. Rebecca Miller confirms with her fourth feature that she’s one of the more intelligent and sensitive writer-directors working in American movies. Who cares who her father is, or who she married? It’s verging on insulting to even mention it, except that it may help a little to interpret this movie.
The Private Lives of Pippa Lee is so grown-up, it’s scary. It’s the kind of movie that is almost extinct – an intelligent, emotional drama that’s confronting, surprising, elegant and still funny. It has given Robin Wright Penn one of the best roles of her career and she’s not the only one. Keanu Reeves, Maria Bello, Alan Arkin and Winona Ryder all have small but memorable roles. A movie with a cast this good is rare; even rarer that all of them have something interesting to play. I don’t wish to over-praise it. It’s a quiet movie about a woman going a bit crazy. What plot there is happens mostly in Pippa Lee’s head. It’s a little static and mannered but I didn’t mind. Wright Penn so dominates the film that I was content. I loved having this access to a woman’s thoughts and fears.
Last week Maria attended the Vintage Valentino Benefit during the Downtown LA Fashion Week, where she was awarded with The Los Angeles Spirit Award For Style and Substance. Maria looked elegant in a long black dress, and was photographed with fashion designer Elizabeth Mason. Photos have been added to the Gallery!
It’s a nice little update today I’ve added more photos from a photoshoot Maria did for The Mummy last year, and she looks gorgeous in these new additions! Thanks so much to Kelly for getting these photos for us. I’ve also added some fantastic new stills from The Private Lives Of Pippa Lee – these come from the official Facebook page for the movie, which you should definitely check out as it has lots of other photos from the movie! The Private Lives Of Pippa Lee is released in the US on November 27th … but us lucky UK fans get the DVD earlier that month
Just found this video of Maria talking about doing the Fast for Darfur. I don’t have any more information on this at the moment, but I will be looking!
EDIT: Visit fastdarfur.org to find more about Fast for Darfur, and find Maria’s blog on the site here!

The Fashion Angel Awards, a runway showcase of three up and coming designers, will debut at Downtown LA Fashion Week, Tuesday, October 13 at The Geffen Contemporary at MOCA (Museum of Contemporary Art). The show, which opens the three day event, will be attended by the city’s top fashion designers and is open to the public. Tickets can be purchased at www.downtownlafashionweek.com and at the door. Doors open at 4 pm for a 5 pm show.
The pilot program sponsored by the Department of Culture and Arts for the City of LA to support emerging talent in the fashion industry introduced its first winners, Phong Hong, Fernanda Carneiro and design team Jaquetta O’Dell and Leslie Henry at a press conference attended by Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa earlier this week.
“Los Angeles will launch an exciting showcase of fashion and creativity that will bring buyers and style mavens from all over the world during LA fashion week,” Mayor Villaraigosa said. “Our City is no longer just the fashion capital of the West Coast; LA is one of the major fashion capitals of the world.”
The winners were chosen by a panel of judges including designers Randolph Duke, Nony Tochterman of Petro Zilla, Nick Verreos, Project Runway Season 3 winner Jeffrey Sebelia, Louis Verdad and contestant Vanessa Gonzalez, of Launch My Line on BRAVO.
An homage to designer Valentino will close the event with a vintage runway show on October 15. The star studded event will honor actress Maria Bello and open with a performance by singer Matt Goss. A portion of ticket sales benefits MOCA.
I’ve never heard anything about this project til now – did I miss something? So I decided to search around for any more information on this project, and here’s what I’ve come up with:
CS: Do you have anything else that you’re going to be shooting next?
Michael Sheen: I’m doing a film called “Beautiful Boy.” We’re shooting it in Los Angeles in November. It’s a very small independent film, a first-time director. He’s written it as well, and it’s about the parents of a kid who goes into a school and shoots (people) and then kills himself. It’s about the parents and how they sort of deal with it afterward.
CS: Wow, so that’s going to be a big change as well.
Sheen: Hm, yeah. Me and Maria Bello. Yeah, and then “New Moon” comes out in November and “Alice,” “Tron,” “Unthinkable”…
I’ve added some candid photos of Maria and her fiance Bryn at LAX airport a couple of weeks ago – candids of Maria are a rare thing, luckily for her … she gets privacy! I also added a couple of old photoshoot pictures last night.
