Nanocrowd, the movie search engine, recently published results of their analysis of the most overdue Oscar nominees. Robin Wright Penn topped the list for Most Overdue Best Actress and Leonardo DiCaprio got the nod for Most Overdue Best Actor.
“At Nanocrowd, we analyze movie viewers’ comments to understand how they reacted to movies in order to recommend movies that people will love,” said Roderic March, CEO of Nanocrowd. “We analyzed these same comments to determine which actors and directors should be the most likely to win Academy Awards and then from that analysis determined who has been overlooked by the Academy and is overdue for an Oscar.”
Using their Reaction Mapping technology, Nanocrowd analyzed movie viewers’ reactions to the films of over 8,000 starring actors and directors. This work suggested that many of the stars who are mathematically most likely to win an Oscar have actually never won. Artists like Leonardo DiCaprio, Christian Bale, Robin Wright Penn and Julianne Moore inspired the creation of a “Most Overdue for an Oscar” list. This list is a striking contrast to the 2010 Oscar Nomination list that is crowded with budding talent like Anna Kendrick, Carey Muligan, Vera Farmiga, and Jeremy Renner and emerging character actors like Christoph Waltz.
The “Most Overdue for Best Actor” list included Leonardo DiCaprio, Joaquin Phoenix, Christian Bale, Richard Gere, and Ed Harris.
The “Most Overdue for Best Actress” list included Robin Wright Penn, Maria Bello, Julianne Moore, Michelle Pfeiffer, and Claire Danes.
The “Most Overdue for Best Director” list included Alan Parker, Ridley Scott, Sidney Lumet, Gus Van Sant, and Michael Mann.
