Kyle Gallner on Beautiful Boy
May 8th, 2010 Filed Under Beautiful Boy No Comments / Comment?

Kyle Gallner, who plays Sam Carroll in Beautiful Boy, recently spoke about the movie. There’s no mention of Maria, but it’s still interesting to read more about the film.

You’re also in a movie coming up called Beautiful Boy, where you’re the catalyst for a school shooting. Maria Bello told me about it and it sounded rough.
It’s an interesting movie. There’s been takes on Columbine and school shooters, and it’s always very sad and a difficult situation, but this is a movie where you see it through the eyes of the parents [of the killer]. The kid isn’t the main focal point; as you said, the kid is just the catalyst. People forget at the end of the day that these parents lost a child as well. They’re still going through a mourning process, and they have to deal with all the parents who blame them: “Why did you raise such a monster? You must be terrible people.” Really, it might not have been their fault at all — their kid could have been a loose cannon who never spoke to his parents.

How do you deal with the people who might not want to see that sort of story dramatized?
It is a difficult situation, but that’s the point of film: to push boundaries and tell things that have never been told and try to see things through different people’s eyes. I’ve played a handful of evil or bad people, but for the most part, these kids kind of see what they’re doing as right. It makes sense to them, even if the rest of the world doesn’t understand. Everyone does something for a reason and these are terrible things, but it’s not like [Beautiful Boy] is making this kid out to be a hero.

Bello, Sheen wrap ‘Beautiful Boy’
December 21st, 2009 Filed Under Beautiful Boy No Comments / Comment?

[Article dated Dec 16th] Maria Bello and Michael Sheen have wrapped production on “Beautiful Boy,” an indie film directed by Shawn Ku,. Ku and Michael Armbruster wrote the script and Lee Clay and Eric Gozlan are the producers.

Bello and Sheen play a married couple on the verge of separation when they are hit with the news their 18-year-old son committed a mass shooting at his college, before taking his own life.

Pic, which just wrapped in L.A., marked the feature directing debut for Ku, who created a stir in Sundance for his unconventional musical short film “Pretty Dead Girl.”

Moon Bloodgood, Alan Tudyk, Kyle Gallner, Austin Nichols and Meat Loaf also in the cast.

Mark Moran, Richard Gabai and Richard Iott are exec producers.

Bello was recently nominated for an Independent Spirit Award for “Downloading Nancy,” and Sheen most recently starred in “The Twilight Saga: New Moon” and “The Damned United.”

First set photos from Beautiful Boy!
November 8th, 2009 Filed Under Beautiful Boy, Gallery Updates No Comments / Comment?

A few weeks ago I posted about Maria’s possible involvement in a new project, Beautiful Boy. Well it seems this project is happening, as today I came across the first lot of pictures from the set! Maria was photographed on the set in Los Angeles this week, as was her co-star Michael Sheen. Photos have been added to the Gallery, and below is a synopsis and some cast/crew details.

Maria is a busy woman these days! This is the 3rd film she’s shot this year! I can’t wait to hear more about them, and see her out promoting them all next year :)

Beautiful Boy:

When an unhappily married couple learns their teenage son is the shooter in a college campus massacre, they struggle to find refuge from both the media and their mutual grief.

Co-starring Michael Sheen, Moon Bloodgood & Kyle Gallner, directed by Shawn Ku, and written by Michael Armbruster & Shawn Ku.

Maria starring in ‘Beautiful Boy’?
October 8th, 2009 Filed Under Beautiful Boy, Career, Rumoured Roles No Comments / Comment?

I was just browsing for Maria news, and came across a mention of her name in an interview with Michael Sheen.

Question: Who do you play in “Beautiful Boy”?

Sheen: It’s me and Maria Bello, and we play a married couple who have a son who gets involved in a sort of Columbine-type shooting.

- moviehole.net

I’ve never heard anything about this project til now – did I miss something? So I decided to search around for any more information on this project, and here’s what I’ve come up with:

CS: Do you have anything else that you’re going to be shooting next?
Michael Sheen: I’m doing a film called “Beautiful Boy.” We’re shooting it in Los Angeles in November. It’s a very small independent film, a first-time director. He’s written it as well, and it’s about the parents of a kid who goes into a school and shoots (people) and then kills himself. It’s about the parents and how they sort of deal with it afterward.

CS: Wow, so that’s going to be a big change as well.
Sheen: Hm, yeah. Me and Maria Bello. Yeah, and then “New Moon” comes out in November and “Alice,” “Tron,” “Unthinkable”…
