"As I’ve gotten older I’ve become more open. You stop judging yourself and you stop judging others. And it
doesn’t matter anymore if anybody likes you."
As posted about yesterday, Maria attended the Independent Spirit Awards in Los Angeles on Friday night, as a nominee for her role in Downloading Nancy. Today I’ve added exactly 100 photos from the event!
Maria’s nude metallic dress was by Kaufman Franco and she accessorised with satin peep-toe Jimmy Choo sandals and a matching Jimmy Choo clutch. And as I said yesterday, I think she looks absolutely stunning, and this is definitely one of my favourite looks of hers! I hope we get to see more of this kind of look from her. Enjoy the photos
Maria attended the Film Independent Spirit Awards in Los Angeles last night, where she was nominated for Best Female Lead for her role in Downloading Nancy. Unfortunately she did not win – the award instead went to Gabourey Sidibe of Precious – but I think that was made up for by the stunning dress Maria wore! She donned a shiny pale mini-dress, with short wavy blonde hair – I think she looks amazing, and this is definitely one of my all-time favourite looks of hers!
Photos will be added to the Gallery very soon (hopefully later today), but for now here are some small previews…
Really exciting news, fellow Maria fans – Ms Bello has been nominated for a Film Independent Spirit Award for her performance in Downloading Nancy! This came as a bit of a shock to me, seeing as despite the fact that her performance looks to be incredible and has got great reviews, it didn’t seem like the type of film that would be readily acknowledged come awards time. So for her to get nominated at the Spirit Awards is fantastic. Congratulations to Maria for this honour.
“The Last Station,” which looks at Russian author Leo Tolstoy’s final days, and “Precious,” the portrait of a troubled inner-city teenager, led the 2010 Spirit Award nominations, with five each.
Both movies were nominated Tuesday morning for best feature along with “(500) Days of Summer,” “Amreeka” and “Sin Nombre.”
The Coen brothers’ “A Serious Man” was awarded the group’s Robert Altman Award, which goes to the film’s cast and its casting director. And the indie horror hit “Paranormal Activity” even made an appearance with a nomination as best first feature.
After discovering the new Grown Ups trailer (posted below) I did a bit of searching for more film updates. Here are new trailer screencaps, release dates, official sites and synopsis’s for The Yellow Handkerchief & Grown Ups, plus new Downloading Nancy info and screencaps…
A love story at its core, THE YELLOW HANDKERCHIEF is about three strangers of two generations bound by loneliness who reach out to one another. After embarking on a road trip through post Katrina Louisiana, their relationships forge and change in a myriad of ways, leading to the possibility of second chances. Brett Hanson (William Hurt) dealing with a painful past, crosses paths with a lonely and troubled teenager Martine (Kristen Stewart) and her new ‘ride’ Gordy (Eddie Redmayne). The trio head out together, each motivated by reasons of their own. Martine yearns to escape her family, Gordy hopes to get closer to Martine and Brett must decide whether he wants to return to the uncertainty of the life and the woman he left behind, his ex-wife May (Maria Bello). A deeply humanistic and emotionally rich film, THE YELLOW HANDKERCHIEF is directed by Udayan Prasad (MY SON THE FANATIC).
Apple.com has The Yellow Handkerchief’s theatrical release date set as February 12th 2010 now. Visit the newly redesigned official site at theyellowhandkerchief.com.
Five friends and former teammates reunite years later to honor the passing of their childhood basketball coach. With their wives and kids in tow, they spend the Fourth of July holiday weekend together at the lake house where they celebrated their championship years earlier. Picking up where they left off, they discover why growing older doesn’t mean growing up.
Released on June 25th 2010 in North America. Worldwide release dates can be found here. Visit the official site at grownups-movie.com.
Whilst updating the sidebar, I noticed that a lot of Maria’s recent movies are a bit up-in-the-air and haven’t had proper releases … so I thought I’d have a look around to check their status’s and post a round-up of release dates.

“I’m kind of pedestrian in my movie taste. I like to be entertained,” a refreshingly honest Maria Bello confesses while on the set of her latest film.
“If I read a script and if I find it moving, if I find it has great people and a wonderful director and it’s well-written and it’s a wonderful part, it doesn’t matter if it’s a comedy or action or drama.”
While she’s taken on roles in films as diverse as “The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor,” “Coyote Ugly” and “A History of Violence,” perhaps Bello’s talent will shine brightest in one of her smaller projects, “Downloading Nancy,” which is set to open this weekend.
Guttural, unnerving and raw, Bello’s character in the film, Nancy, battles an addiction to self-harm within the confines of her loveless marriage in the suburbs.
Unable to handle the trauma of her past, Nancy takes to the Internet to find help for an assisted suicide. There she finds Louis, who promises to carry out the murder during a sexual encounter.
Lots of new stuff has popped up recently! To start with, we have the first 3 stills of Maria in The Private Lives Of Pippa Lee (pictured alongside Blake Lively who I believe plays the young Pippa Lee) and 3 posters for Downloading Nancy which is getting a limited US release in a couple of weeks (let’s hope Maria attends a premiere for it!). Maria was spotted on the set of Grown Ups in Boston 10 days ago, and I’ve added a photo of that.
And I’ve caught up on all the new appearance photos, all of which were charity-related events.
Film screencaptures and those remaining 2008 appearance photos are coming up next …
A new trailer has been released for Downloading Nancy, plus the official site has been slightly updated and it now includes an official release date – June 5th! No doubt this will be in a very limited number of cinemas in the US, but hopefully some people will be able to see it.
Just from the trailer you can see that Maria’s performance is incredible, and no doubt the best of her career! I’m interested to read more reviews on the film, and of course I can’t wait to watch it myself
Strand Releasing has acquired all domestic rights to Sundance ‘08 competition pic “Downloading Nancy.”
Swedish helmer Johan Renck’s controversial drama, starring Maria Bello, Jason Patric, Rufus Sewell and Amy Brenneman, concerns a damaged, despairing housewife who turns to the Internet to find a partner to fulfill her darkest desires. Pic, based on a true story, is a debut feature for Renck, an accomplished director of commercials and musicvids (Madonna, Beyonce).
David Moore and Igor Kovacevich of Tule River Films produced. Lee Ross and Pamela Cuming scripted.
Strand had been pursuing the film since Sundance, and the deal reps one of several post-fest pickups this year.
“We were captivated by ‘Downloading Nancy’s’ bold but honest approach to a very controversial subject. In this age of Facebook and MySpace, the film has specific relevance,” said Strand co-prexy Jon Gerrans.
Strand is queuing up a platform rollout for the pic in spring 2009.
The 20-year-old distrib’s recent releases include Claude Miller’s “A Secret” and Fatih Akin’s “The Edge of Heaven.”
Deal was negotiated between Strand’s Gerrans and Traction Media’s Doug Stone and Maren Olson. Foreign rights are repped by Wild Bunch.
