‘Mummy’ wraps up international boxoffice
Opening at No. 1 in 26 markets from Mexico to Thailand, Universal International’s “The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor” topped the international circuit during the weekend, grossing an estimated $59.5 million from 3,559 screens for a thumping per-screen average of $16,718.
The third film in the series, this one co-starring Brendan Fraser, Jet Li, Maria Bello and Michelle Yeoh, played in 28 markets overall. Universal said it substantially outpaced comparable openings for 1999′s “The Mummy” ($16.7 million) and 2001′s “The Mummy Returns” ($21.5 million) in the same markets. The Rob Cohen-directed adventure title’s worldwide weekend tally is $102 million.
