Kristen Stewart Is ‘Amazing,’ Say ‘Yellow Handkerchief’ Co-Stars
March 7th, 2010 Filed Under New Event, Other, Yellow Handkerchief No Comments / Comment?

Before Kristen Stewart became ubiquitous as Bella Swan, she shot a little movie called “The Yellow Handkerchief,” about three misfits on a road trip who bond over their shared loneliness. After the film was completed, the actress became a superstar. Yet her “Handkerchief” co-stars insist that Stewart is the same girl she’s always been, even with the pandemonium surrounding her.

“Well, Kristen before the whole hoopla of ‘Twilight’ was an amazing actress when she did this part,” co-star Maria Bello told MTV News at the premiere on Thursday night in Los Angeles. “I saw her in ‘Into the Wild’ as well and I couldn’t believe her depth and emotional integrity. And I’m so proud to be in this with her.”

It’s not just Bello who has kind words for the star. Her on-screen love interest in “The Yellow Handkerchief,” Eddie Redmayne, says that both she and his old pal, Robert Pattinson, have handled their fame with class. He says that as they grow more famous, he hopes their work will continue to become more interesting.

Robin Wright Penn and Leonardo DiCaprio: Most Overdue for an Oscar
March 7th, 2010 Filed Under Career, Other No Comments / Comment?

Nanocrowd, the movie search engine, recently published results of their analysis of the most overdue Oscar nominees. Robin Wright Penn topped the list for Most Overdue Best Actress and Leonardo DiCaprio got the nod for Most Overdue Best Actor.

“At Nanocrowd, we analyze movie viewers’ comments to understand how they reacted to movies in order to recommend movies that people will love,” said Roderic March, CEO of Nanocrowd. “We analyzed these same comments to determine which actors and directors should be the most likely to win Academy Awards and then from that analysis determined who has been overlooked by the Academy and is overdue for an Oscar.”

Maria praises Kristen Stewart at Yellow Handkerchief premiere
March 7th, 2010 Filed Under New Event, Other, Yellow Handkerchief No Comments / Comment?

Kristen Stewart smouldered in front of a barrage of flashes at the Los Angeles premiere of The Yellow Handkerchief.

The Twilight star, who wore a short black dress, walked the red carpet outside the Pacific Design Centre as the photographers snapped away, and then quickly made her way into the screening.

Kristen’s co-star Maria Bello was full of praise for the young actress.

“I have to say I saw Kristen in Into The Wild and was so impressed with her depth and integrity and was so thrilled to do this film with her, which I think she’s amazing in,” she said.

“I think the Twilight thing is just like a bunch of bells and whistles because she’s going to have a fantastic career because she’s really great at what she does.”

The Good Life
For Norristown native and Hollywood actress Maria Bello, living well means loving deeply, giving back, and visiting Philly as often as she can.

For many people, there’s nothing like returning to old familiar places to reconnect with oneself and take stock of life. For Maria Bello, those sacred spots are Philly and the Jersey Shore. “We go to Sea Isle City,” she says. “We’ve been going there for years, and my family used to own this pizza place [down the Shore] called the Charcoal House. My son, he’s eight years old, and he loves seeing his grammy and poppop, and all his aunts and uncles and Philly cousins.”

Family ties, she says, have always been this strong. Bello, a grad of Archbishop Carroll and Villanova, grew up in Norristown in a tight-knit Polish-Italian clan, the daughter of a construction worker dad and a teacher mom. One of four children, she was on the varsity cheerleading team at Carroll, majored in political science at Villanova, and had dreams of going to law school. By her account, it was a joyful childhood made special by a close community and solid bonds.

Nicole Richie, listening to Emile Hirsch talk about visiting Congo during a benefit for Raise Hope for Congo in the living room of a private residence in Los Angeles. There with Joel Madden, the starlet sat in rapt attention as the Milk actor told guests like Maria Bello how they could get involved in the charity, which raises awareness of sexual assault against women in the Congo. As she listened, Richie would discretely rub her beau’s leg, and he reciprocated by wrapping his arm around her shoulder and periodically playing with her hair.

Maria Bello Pulls a Damon on Sarah Palin
September 14th, 2008 Filed Under Career, Other No Comments / Comment?

We usually see Towelhead’s Maria Bello in small-type flicks like A History of Violence or her Oscar-nom’d turn in The Cooler. What’s her hang-up with H’wood? Is she afraid she’d be cheating on independent film if she scored a big-budget part as Wonder Woman or something? “It’s not so much that my heart belongs to independent movies,” said M.B. at the creepy new flick’s premiere. “I’m interested in good roles for women. And perhaps more studio roles are starting to get better for women, I’m not sure.” Stick with what you’re doing, Bel-babe, it’s working.

Maria Bello got tattooed with dad
August 4th, 2008 Filed Under Other No Comments / Comment?

Actress MARIA BELLO and her dad woke up with tattoos following a father and daughter drinking session. The Coyote Ugly star is a little embarrassed about the drunken episode, and the etching she has been left with – but she insists her dad is proud of his tattoo. Bello says, “It was a few Christmasses ago, we went to our local bar. We had a few shots of Jack Daniel’s (whiskey) and went to the tattoo parlour across the street. I got this cute little Celtic symbol on my hip, and my dad got a gigantic Philadelphia Eagles logo tattooed on his arm. He walks around so proud.”
