Actress Maria Bello has started smoking again, just months after kicking her longtime nicotine addiction.
The health-conscious Coyote Ugly star, 43, thought she had managed to quit for good last November (09) after undergoing a series of hypnotherapy sessions.
She said, “I quit for a year, started again for a month, and then… I went to a hypnotist – and now I’m not smoking. It’s my one horrible addiction. You can’t believe it’s working because you think, ‘This is ridiculous, it’s not going to work…’ And then it works.”
But Bello admits she has since slipped back into her old routine and now the bad habit is costing her big – because she agreed to pay her nine-year-old son Jack cash every time she is caught with a cigarette, or whenever she swears.
She says, “I started smoking a little bit again. I quit and now it’s like four or five (cigarettes) a day. And I owe Jack money for that – every time he sees a cigarette in my purse and everytime I curse. I owe him like, $300 (£200)!”

It’s tough for Maria Bello on the dating scene.
The newly single actress — she split with musician fiancé Bryn Mooser last year — doesn’t have the air of mystery that many women do.
“I don’t really date,” admits Bello from her home in Venice, Calif. “What I always think when I’m speaking to a man is that they’ve already seen me naked. Or if they haven’t, they can Google me and see me naked.”
Indeed, Bello has appeared in graphic sex scenes in a number of roles, albeit respectable ones, including as a Vegas waitress in The Cooler, and a suffering wife in A History of Violence.
Not that she’s actively looking.
“I’ve never had a traditional relationship,” says the 42-year-old Pennsylvania native. “I’ve never been married. Though I’ve been close, I’ve never quite pulled the plug!”
Add to that — Bello’s plate is pretty full. She’s currently promoting The Yellow Handkerchief, out Friday. It’s a road trip movie about an ex con (William Hurt) trying to get back to his lost love (Bello). Along the way he meets up with two teens — one being Twilight’s Kristen Stewart (the film was shot in 2008 — pre vampire furor).

Actress MARIA BELLO is in no rush to marry rocker BRYN MOOSER – because the couple can’t agree on where to hold their nuptials.
Bello, 42, became engaged to the Proud Mary bass player in July 2008, but 16 months later, the pair have still not set a date.
And the indecisive star admits her 29-year-old fiance is reluctant to help with the planning.
She explains, “I don’t know (when we will marry)… We’re not big planners… We can’t figure it out.”

And Bello has given up trying to demystify the new age treatment – because she’s stunned how quickly she’s snapped out of her addiction. She explains, “I quit for a year, started again for a month, and then… I went to a hypnotist – and now I’m not smoking. It’s my one horrible addiction.

Actress Maria Bello and boyfriend Bryn Mooser are engaged, her rep confirms to PEOPLE.
The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor star, 41, and Mooser announced their engagement in Bello’s hometown newspaper, The Norristown Times Herald, in Norristown, Pa, which said the couple “fell in love over a sheer passion of politics, Africa and cryptozoology.”
Bello told the New York Post’s Page Six Magazine she “was always anti-marriage. I didn’t understand monogamy. I couldn’t figure out how that could last. And then I met Bryn and I started to understand the beauty of constancy and history and change and going on the roller coaster with someone – of having a partner in life.”
Bello and Mooser, who the magazine described as a musician, artist and part-time waiter, have not set a date yet.

Actress MARIA BELLO is pleased she flirted with a hunky waiter at a family birthday celebration – because he soon became her boyfriend.
The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor star was at a relative’s birthday party, when she spotted a restaurant staffmember who took her fancy.
And instead of gossiping about the hunk to friends, the determined star marched over and asked if he was single.
She tells New York gossip column Page Six, “I walked up and said, ‘Can you take this cake and put a candle in it? And by the way, do you have a girlfriend?’
“(And) from that night on, we’ve been together.”

ACTRESS Maria Bello had a few days off from filming on location in Connecticut. She decided she wanted to help Sen. Barack Obama more than she needed to rest.
So on Friday, she joined her onetime school mate John Prendergast, an African affairs expert in President Clinton’s State Department and now a foreign policy advisor to the stars, in their hometown of Norristown, Pa.
They immediately went to work on the campaign, and by Sunday, they had canvassed the town: They stumped for the Illinois senator at a coffee shop, the train depot, on street corners and in schools.
